Leo Fryer Despain
(February 5, 1916 - July 28, 2009)
“Quiet Gentle Man”
Leo Fryer Despain was born Feb. 5, 1916 in Granite, Utah to Charles Ward and Elsie Fryer Despain. He died July 28, 2009 at home.
Leo met and became engaged to Claudine Jensen, but before they could marry, he was drafted into the Army where he served from 1941-1945. While on leave, he married his sweetheart in 1941. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
Leo was very involved in scouting, served in the Salt Lake Temple, served for many years as a ward clerk and served a local service mission for the church with his wife. He loved serving his family and neighbors.
Leo was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, camping, hiking and gardening. He loved playing baseball in his younger years.
He is survived by Claudine, his wife of 67 years; children, Gerald (Juanita), Susan Driggs, Janet (Jay) Carlson; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Ward Despain, Merland Despain and Nellie Kunz.
Preceded in death by his daughter, DeAnne; granddaughter, Sandra; brother, Joseph Despain; and sister, Verdant Warren.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ridgedale Ward, 3400 So. 1100 E., in Salt Lake City. Leo’s viewing will be held Sunday, August 2, 2009 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, and Monday at the church from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Burial: Murray City Cemetery.

Hey Cathy, So sorry to hear about your loss. It's always difficult to lose a loved one. I noticed that my family took care of the funeral services, I hope they treated you well. It's never easy dealing with the loss of someone you love but sometimes the people around you can make it that much easier.
